The issues is this:
The district was experiencing a huge disparity between different campuses that parents, employees of the district and others, were requesting their child/children attend a particular campus that the family was not zoned to.
The result was overcrowding at certain campuses and unfair student teacher ratios.

I don't like it but I accept it. I can't send my child to a school down the street (Resaca or Los Cuates) but have to send him to a school that is 4 miles away. In the past we could send our children to Resaca or Los Cuates because of employment with the district but this has changed due to the population dispersion. The district just can't make exceptions any longer for anyone. I don't blame the administration at all for the current problem. They are only reacting to a problem that exists now that didn't exist in the past. They have to fill the empty classrooms and prevent over-crowding. The mistake was made years ago when a MS was built where there was little growth. LMMS should have been built somewhere South of Los Fresnos/North of Brownsville in the Olmito Elem area or further north. My friends in Northern Brownsville send their kids up to 12 miles away to a MS/HS. I can't complain too much.

I agree.
There were too many exceptions and just like you mentioned, student teacher ratios were way off.
I wonder if there were ever any residents that were zoned to a particular school that were not allowed to enroll at their school due to overcrowding?
